Notes on the morphological variation of the rotifer species Keratella cochlearis (Gosse) s.l. in one eutrophic pond

Pertti Eloranta

Department of Biology, University of Jyväskylä SF-40100 Jyväskylä 10, Finland

Received on March 1, 1981; accepted on October 1, 1981 Morphological variation of Keratella cochlearis (Gosse) s.l. were monitored during two years in one eutrophic pond in central Finland. Nine different taxonomical forms were found during the observations. Very significant negative correlation was found between water temperature and total length of tecta series. Some forms (forms of hispida series and irregularis series) were found only during warm water seasons. The lorica structure of different morphs was also studied by SEM techniques and besides in the plaque patterns, differences were found among pustulation and pustule structure of different types.
