Evolution de la constitution chimique élémentaire de Pontella mediterranea au cours des dernières générations annuelles dans le golfe de Marseille

Giséle Champalbert and Pierre Kerambrun

Laboratoire d'Hydrobiologie marine et Laboratoire associé au CNRS n° 41, Faculté des Sciences de Luminy 70, route Léon Lachamp, 13288 Marseille Cedex 9, France

Received on January 1, 1981; accepted on January 1, 1982 Elementary chemical composition in carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen of the Pontellid Copepod Pontella mediterranea was studied on 148 males and 146 females from automnal populations of the gulf of Marseilles, which are the last annual generations. Data are compared to those obtained from spring and summer. The increase in animal weight from the last generations is greater in females than males. The dry weight ratio of females against males is ~1.6 while it is only ~1.4 in the previous generations. At the end of the natural biological cycle, C:N ratio shows a light but significant difference between males and females. The values of C:N ratio remain close to 3.4, which means that the observed increase of animal weight on the last generations mainly proceeds from an increase in protein compounds.
