ABSTRACT
We describe here a refinement of the method for the estimation of egg production rates of the planktonic copepod, Calanus finmarchicus, from formaldehyde-preserved samples. We present criteria for classifying pre-spawned clutches as either high, intermediate or low in number. The method allows reproductive assessment of preserved females without the need for staining and is capable of accurate asssessments in food-limited environments.
