Variegated mesocosms as alternatives to shore-based planktonkreisels: notes on the husbandry of jellyfish from marine lakes

Mike N. Dawson

Department of Organismic Biology, Ecology, and Evolution, University of California, Box 951606, Los Angeles, CA 90095-1606, USA

Variegated mesocosms, which provide spatial cues lacking in planktonkreisels, facilitated morphological and behavioral studies of plankton from marine lakes. A mesocosm and its application to marine lake studies are described, then several modifications to the present design suggested. Variegated mesocosms are a neglected resource in plankton research.
