On temperature-independent growth of phytoplankton
Department of Agriculture for Northern Ireland, Freshwater Biological Investigation Unit Greenmount, Muckamore BT41 4PX, Northern Ireland
Received on May 3, 1988; accepted on January 20, 1989 Growth rates of two freshwater diatoms and three chlorophytes were compared under 3 h days at 10 µmol m2 s1. Specific growth rates ranged between µ=0.03 day1 and µ=0.055 day1 for the different species and were in every species independent of temperature between 8 and 16°C.
